The Velocity Anthology double page spread

If you've been wondering why I've gone into ninja stealth mode over the last two weeks, its because I've been working on a beast of a double page spread for Velocity issue 4!
I was told I could draw anything I liked, as long as it told a story, was science fiction or fantasy, and was PG-13!
Dammit, no boobies then... That pretty much killed half my ideas on the spot.
So I decided to do a scene from a famous historical battle that takes place in the history of my science fiction comic that I'm currently writing. You guys will find out more about this comic towards the end of the year.
So here are the WIPs so far. I'll be finishing it up today, so the color image below is not final.
The pencils and inks were done traditionally on 19"x24" bristol board and then scanned in in six parts and stitched back together for coloring in Photoshop.

GOFU! Introducing: Tatsu

Meet Tatsu.
She is the main character from my upcoming comic, Gofu, which I am rushing to finish for the Open Book Comic Fest in September. (So if you wonder why I'm scarce, now you know why!)
The fantasy story and characters of Gofu have been floating around my studio for a few years now, and I chose it to be my first comic book project because its a pretty simple story, but I think it's also something that you have never seen in a comic before!

Gofu will be a short introductory comic of 10 pages about Tatsu and her best friend, Gofu, who are forced to leave their home and search for safety in strange lands.

Keep following this blog! - lots more GOFU updates to come!

It's Comic Con week!!

It's that time of year again! Sand Diego Comic Con 2013 is this week, and I am still no closer to attending. All I can do is follow the tweets, youtoobs and stare at all the cosplay pics over the interwebs from afar. I'll get there soon enough!
However, this year SDCC seems a little closer to home, because the Velocity anthology will be over there, punting the comic art of Southern Africa and Australia.
Neville Howard, Moray Rhoda, Ray Whitcher will be representing, and hosting a panel about comics in Africa and Australia on Thursday the 18th from 6:30-7:30 in Room 4.
So if you're there go over and support!

I'll be following Rays posts as he updates us on Tumblr over HERE
And you can check out Velocity over HERE

I'm actually working on my submission for Velocity as we speak so I'm quite excited about that because its an amazing magazine to support. So local comic artists, go check them out!

Old figure drawing restoration Part 2

back to Part 1
Here are two more old figure drawings of mine, saved from the ravages of time. I think the first one needs a little more Photoshop work, actually.
I remember these figure study sessions with much fondness. I would rather have gone through a few more years of figure drawing that the last two years of graphic design. I think it would have actually been a more valuable use of my time.
I'll add some more soon.

Comic art pencils for One Nation

I thought I'd share a little teaser of a teaser comic I have been penciling for One Nation by Jason Reeves of 133Art.
Here are two panels from the project. One awesome shot of the superhero "Paragon"and another showing how this comic will put you in the middle of the action!
There's a lot of action and in this little story, and I also had to do a lot of research, which I always enjoy doing.
I've done all of these traditionally with pencil on Bristol board.
This has been an awesome comic pencil job to work on and I cant wait to see how it comes out.

You can buy and download One Nation at
