Spider-Man sketch card

While I was doing my latest sketch card, I realized that Spider-Man is much harder to draw than I thought. He is such an iconic character, that if you try to do anything different with his head, like say, add some anatomy for instance, it just isn't Spider-Man anymore.

Nightcrawler sketch card

Nightcrawler is my wife's favorite X-Men character. So this sketch card is for her...
And I think this is my favorite ink drawing in the set so far.

Today's Sketch Card is a little something for the guys...

I'm a HUGE Avengers fan and Miss Marvel is one of my favorite Avengers characters.
This sketch card is my first of many comic fan art cards.
I've started taking on personal comic art commissions and I think this is a good example of the type of art that you can commission from me. Maybe your favorite comic character. Maybe an original character by me...it's all good.

Bristol board - my paper of choice

I just received my new shipment of Strathmore Bristol board.

Once I started drawing on this board, I simply could not go back to inferior papers. It's super durable, smooth, heavyweight paper, perfect for the penciling and inking required by comic art.
Unfortunately this type of paper simply isn't available in South Africa, so I have to import it.
Rather unsurprisingly, the costs of importing it, including shipping and duty ends up being equivalent or just a little bit more that the cost of locally available, inferior papers.

Perhaps "inferior" is not always the right work to describe local papers, but in my experience, the right type of paper for technical drawing and inking just isn't really available.

Furry gorilla creature

Today's sketch card is this furry gorilla creature. I'm really getting into doing these 5.5"x8.5" ink on Bristol board sketch cards now.

Lost Artwork Resurrected

In 2011, my computer died, and I lost a whole bunch of original digital art files, leaving me with only the low resolution versions that I had on my website.
I decided to resurrect one of my favorites in a traditional medium on Bristol board, and give my character, Mellee, a little bit of an update.
So here is Mellee, with her new, longer hairstyle, and a few other subtle changes. It's nice to have this artwork back. I might re-do some of the other digital art that I lost at a later stage.
